LIFE, CREATIVE WORK & THE FUTURE
I was born in 1984 Opole, Poland. I grew up in Erdmannsweiler, Königsfeld and Villingen Schwenningen in Black Forest, South Germany. I grew up speaking German, Polish and English at home and at school.
My journey as a creator began with filmmaking. I made my first film called "Die Erben" with friends at age 10-12 and a documentary on Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" as part of a school project. In 2002, my most personal youth project came to life: Inspired by my grandmother's journey as a Polish child who survived the horros of World War II, I created a project that preserved the memory of children during the Holocaust. The core of the project was the short film "Unbetitelt", inspired by Janusz Korczak's "Ghetto Diary", which gave visibility to the lives of Jewish children and pedagogues in the Warsaw Ghetto.
The "Unbetitelt" project was awarded the 1st Geschichtspreis des Oberbürgermeisters der Stadt Villingen-Schwenningen (History Award of the Major of Villingen-Schwenningen). The prize had been founded in order to encourage students to take an active part in the preservation of democracy by (self-)educating about history. The film also appeared at festivals and went on the receive a Lobende Erwähnung at the Filmschau Baden-Württemberg.
Inspired by filmmakers such as Stanley Kubrick, Orson Welles, Billy Wilder or Alfred Hitchcock, I originally intended to become a filmmaker and began to study directing. Unfortunately, aggressive gender-specific discrimination broke my young heart back then.
I switched to Film Studies at Freie Universität and moved to Berlin. It was during this time, that I began making more and more music. Eventually, after completing my B.A. degree in Film Studies, English Philologie and Comparative LIterature in 2008, my focus shifted entirely to music.
I'm a songwriter, singer, bassist, producer, visual creator and music video director with an amazing, faithful fanbase that I call "Ponies". My debut album "The Name Of This Girl Is" dropped in 2011. Since then, I've released three albums and one EP in Germany and Poland, as well as the single "Dark Blonde Rises" (2014) – a collaboration with producer Sterling Fox (Lana Del Rey, Madonna). This single was originally released on Fox's indie label Silver Scream Records. All other releases were self-released in Germany (L I V V Music) and in Poland from 2012 to 2015 with EMI / Warner Music. Since 2015, I've released my music on my own.
My single "Abby Abby (Choir Girl Remix)" earned a great success in radio and on YouTube, becoming a little classic in the Polish indie pop scene and queer underground. My songs "Tel Aviv", "Blood Ponies", "Tennis Rackets", "Earth Moves", "Geek Power" or "Subways" gained the status of cult songs and fan favorites. "Tennis Rackets" was a part of the soundtrack to Polish feature film "Big Love" (2012).
With "Noke" (2016) and "Spectacular" (2020), I was twice a part of the "Listen to Berlin" compilation by Berlin Music Commission. In 2019, I was granted a scholarship by Musicboard Berlin to finance a promotional campaign for my album "Digital Dissidents". Thanks to the support, my single "Spectacular" was featured in Clash Magazine, on Radio X and BBC 1, among others.
As a live act, I had the pleasure to perform at events such as Coke Live Music Festival, Off Festival, Reeperbahn Music Festival Showcase, Queer Eye Festival Prague, CSD Hamburg, Shimokitazawa Sound Cruising in Tokyo. I also was lucky to open for Lenny Kravitz in Warsaw, 2011.
During the pandemic in 2021, I had to re-organize myself. Now I'm building a fresh start as an artist and producer, aiming for a new level.
Genre-bending and exploring the possibilities of pop is what I've always been passionate about. On my first albums, I built beats, vocals, keys or orchestration, mostly around my bass guitar and called the style "Voice'n'Bass". In the future, I'd love to move beyond this, broaden my horizons even further, collaborate with other artists and producers, and make pop music that breaks boundaries. :D
MY LIFE, WORK & APPROACH TO ART
So far, I've mostly worked in DIY mode – I write, arrange and produce my songs, design the artworks, edit and direct my music videos. For mixing and drum kit recording, I had the pleasure to work with wonderful engineers. For music videos, I worked with a DoP and/or family members in small teams of 2-4 people.
I began teaching myself how to produce by experimenting with sounds and vocals in my demos in 2007/8 and eventually by working on my debut "The Name of This Girl Is" (2011). Since then, I always tried to evolve from one release to the next. I also finance my productions and organize financial support for the projects. My albums were partly supported by my amazing fanbase through crowdfunding, or by Musicboard Berlin. I also took part in the musician's tv competition "Must Be the Music" to finance the completion of my debut album.
I grew up trilingual. My life carried me from my Polish birthplace Opole in Poland, via the Black Forest (where I spent most of my childhood) to Berlin. I've always felt estranged and only really found a home in my record collection and diverse Berlin musician-teachers, as well as my creative connection to my LGBTQIA+ community (which has been a part of my music journey since the beginnings). The album trilogy reflected this. I'm obviously camp as hell, love camp traditions and the expression of creativity, freedom, self-irony and meaning through visual style. Being a Polish-German artist, I try to represent multicultural fusion, and constantly work on being an anti-racist, women*-empowering and LGBTQIA+-supportive artist. (It's a journey I have been on for over 10 years, always learning and hopefully improving solutions). With music, my goal has always been making us more empathetic about the world. That's what drives me. I hope I can add my little tiny, humble stone to that big project.
Another driving force are my sweet Ponies. I really make music for them and hope that it gives them power and happiness. (Frankly, they always keep me going. :D)

TWÓRCZOŚĆ I PRZYSZŁOŚĆ
Urodziłam się w 1984 roku w Opolu, w Polsce. Wychowywałam w Erdmannsweiler, Königsfeld i Villingen Schwenningen w Schwarzwaldzie w Niemczech. Dorastałam mówiąc po niemiecku, po polsku i po angielsku w domu i w szkole.
Moja podróż jako twórca rozpoczęła się od filmów. Swój pierwszy film zatytułowany „Die Erben” nakręciłem z przyjaciółmi w wieku 10-12 lat, a dokument o „Brave New World” Aldousa Huxleya pare lat później. W 2002 roku powstał mój najbardziej osobisty projekt młodości: Zainspirowana historią mojej babci, która jako polskie dziecko przeżyła horror II wojny światowej, stworzyłam projekt, który zachowywał pamięć o dzieciach podczas Holokaustu i wojny. Podstawą projektu był film krótkometrażowy „Unbetitelt”, zainspirowany "Pamiętnikami i Innymi Pismami z Getta" Janusza Korczaka.
Projekt „Unbetitelt” został nagrodzony Nagrodą Historii Burmistrza Miasta Villingen-Schwenningen (Geschichtspreis des Oberbürgermeisters der Stadt Villingen-Schwenningen), która zachęcała uczniów do aktywnego udziału w ochronie demokracji poprzez (samo)edukację historyczną. Film pojawił się na festiwalach i otrzymał nagrodę "Lobende Erwähnung" na Filmschau Baden-Württemberg.
Zainspirowana takimi twórcami jak Stanley Kubrick, Orson Welles, Billy Wilder czy Alfred Hitchcock, początkowo chciałam zostać filmowcem i zaczęłam studiować reżyserię. Niestety, dyskryminacja, której wtedy doświadczyłam, złamała moje młode serce.
Zmieniłam kierunek na filmoznawstwo na Freie Universität i przeprowadziłam się do Berlina. W tym czasie zaczęłam tworzyć coraz więcej muzyki. Ostatecznie, po ukończeniu studiów z filmoznawstwa, filologii angielskiej i literatury porównawczej w 2008 roku, skupiłam się całkowicie na muzyce.
Jestem wokalistką, autorką tekstów, basistką, producentką oraz twórczynią opraw wizualnych reżyserem teledysków, z niesamowitym, wiernym fanbase zwanym "Ponies". Mój debiutancki album "The Name Of This Girl Is" ukazał się w 2011 roku. Od tego czasu wydałam trzy albumy i jedną EP-kę w Niemczech i Polsce, a także singiel "Dark Blonde Rises" (2014) - współpracę z producentem Sterlingiem Foxem (Lana Del Rey, Madonna). Ten singiel został wydany w niezależnej wytwórni Foxa. Wszystkie pozostałe releases zostały wydane samodzielnie w Niemczech (L I V V Music) oraz w Polsce w latach 2012-2015 poprzez EMI / Warner Music. Od 2015 roku wydaję swoją muzykę na własną rękę.
Mój singiel "Abby Abby (Choir Girl Remix)" odniósł sukces w radiu i na YouTube, stając się małym klasykiem polskiej sceny indie popowej i queerowego undergroundu. Moje utwory "Tel Aviv", "Blood Ponies", "Tennis Rackets", "Earth Moves", "Geek Power" czy "Subways" zyskały status kultowych piosenek, ulubionych przez fanów. Piosenka "Tennis Rackets" była częścią ścieżki dźwiękowej do polskiego filmu fabularnego "Big Love" (2012).

Łączenie gatunków i odkrywanie możliwości popu zawsze mnie pasjonowało. Na moich pierwszych albumach budowałem bity, wokale, klawisze lub orkiestracje, głównie wokół mojej gitary basowej, nazywając ten styl "Voice'n'Bass". W przyszłości chciałbym poszerzyć swoje horyzonty jeszcze bardziej, współpracować z innymi artystami i producentami oraz tworzyć muzykę pop, która przełamuje granice.
MOJE ŻYCIE, PRACA I FILOZOFIA ARTYSTYCZNA
Do tej pory pracowałam w dużej mierze w trybie DIY - piszę i produkuję swoje piosenki, projektuję grafiki, montuję i reżyseruję swoje teledyski. Przy miksowaniu i nagrywaniu bebnów miałam przyjemność pracować ze wspaniałymi inżynierami. W przypadku teledysków pracowałam z DoP i/lub członkami rodziny w małych zespołach składających się z 2-4 osób.
Zaczełam uczyć się produkcji eksperymentując z dźwiękami i wokalami w moich demo w 2007/8 roku, a ostatecznie pracując nad moim debiutem "The Name of This Girl Is" (2011). Od tego czasu zawsze starałam się rozwijać przy każdym nowym wydaniu. Finansuję również swoje produkcje i organizuję wsparcie finansowe dla nich. Moje albumy były częściowo wspierane przez mój niesamowity fanbase poprzez crowdfunding lub przez Musicboard Berlin. Wziełam również udział w konkursie dla muzyków i songwriterów w Polsce, Must be the Music, aby sfinansować ukonczenie debiutanckiego albumu.
Dorastałam z trzema językami. Moje życie przeniosło mnie z polskiego miejsca urodzenia, Opola, poprzez Schwarzwald (gdzie spędziłam większość dzieciństwa) do Berlina. Zawsze czułam się wyobcowana i tak naprawdę znalazłam dom tylko w kolekcji płyt i różnorodnych berlińskich muzykach-nauczycielach, a także w moim kreatywnym powiązaniu do swojej community LGBTQIA+ (która była częścią mojej muzycznej podróży od samego początku). Wszystko to znalazło odzwierciedlenie w moich pierwszych trzech albumach. Jestem też, jak widać, camp camp camp i uwielbiam wyrażać kreatywność, wolność, autoironię i znaczenia poprzez styl. Jako polsko-niemiecka artystka z migracyjną historią ciągle zastanawiam się, jak moja muzyka może wspierać multikulturę, LGBTQIA+, kobiety i postawę antyrasizmu. (To podróż, którą odbywam od ponad 10 lat, starając się o coraz lepsze rozwiązania). Moim celem w muzyce zawsze była próba uczynienia nas bardziej empatycznymi wobec świata. Mam nadzieję, że dołożyłam swoją małą, skromną cegiełkę do tego wielkiego projektu.
Moją drugą wielką motywacja są moje ukochane Ponies. Tworzę muzykę przede wszystkim dla nich - mając nadzieję, że da im to siłę i szczęście. (Podtrzymują mnie na duchu i nadają mojej pracy sens).
